Fallen torment passion rapture5/12/2023 ![]() ![]() I was a bit worn out with the whole love story of Daniel and Luce though, to be honest. Kate does a great job of tying all the lose ends together, while still giving us some romance and adventure. :) We finally get to know how Daniel and Luce FIRST met, and I mean for the VERY first time. I honestly would have liked more, but hey, beggars can't be choosers. ![]() What I truly wanted from Rapture was more Daniel/Luce time, and Lauren Kate gave it to me. After reading the third book of the series, Passion, I definitely could not wait to finish the series. I love how unique this "fallen angel" series is compared to others, the tragedy of Luce & Daniel's love, the way not all the fallen angels are actually Hell's angels or bad. I could not wait to read the ending to this series. ![]() I have been so excited for this book for a LONG time. ![]()

Jennifer donnelly waterfire saga books5/12/2023 ![]() Seraphina, the main character, is worried about fulfilling her duties as a princess and whether the guy she’s betrothed to still likes her. However, I found that the first 25% of the book (accurate due to Kindle) had a completely different feel to the rest of the story. Set under the sea in a very developed (though not entirely explained) mermaid world, it’s perfect for girls that want a tame introduction to fantasy before they try their hand at ‘A Song of Ice and Fire’ (A recommended reading age of at least 14.) ![]() This book has a lot of elements within it that are important when writing books for children, for example, friendship and self belief. With those criteria, I think she’s succeeded. Although marketed as a young adult book, after researching the author’s website, her intention was to write for her ten year old daughter. The Waterfire Saga: Deep Blue is a book that I would recommend to girls of around ten to twelve years old. ![]() Genre: Supernatural, Romance, Middle-Grade ![]()

The Soloist by Mark Salzman5/12/2023 ![]() ![]() ![]() He never gave up music, though, and Salzman’s cello playing appears on the soundtrack to several films, including the Academy Award-winning documentary Breathing Lessons: The Life and Work of Mark O’Brien. He soon changed his major to Chinese language and philosophy, which took him to mainland China where he taught English for two years and studied martial arts. As a boy, all Salzman ever wanted was to be a Kung Fu master, but it was his proficiency on the cello that facilitated his acceptance to Yale at the age of 16. ![]() Mark Salzman is an award-winning novelist and nonfiction author who has written on a variety of subjects, from a graceful novel about a Carmelite nun’s ecstatic visions and crisis of faith to a compelling memoir about growing up a misfit in a Connecticut suburb – clearly displaying a range that transcends genre. ![]()

Just like home sarah gailey5/12/2023 ![]() ![]() All monsters partition other people into two categories-those who witness their monstrosity, and those who don’t. It’s easy for a monster to seem loveable. To love a monster is easy, when the monster seems loveable. But on its own, love is no different from any other feeling. Action might spring from emotion-love might lead to an expression of affection, anger might lead to violence, a powerful impulse might lead to a monstrous act. Like anger or sadness or the desire to kill, it arrives without invitation or intention. Love in its many forms wells up out of the human spirit irrepressibly. Emotions, urges, and impulses are themselves beyond our ability to control. It’s easy to love a monster because love isn’t a decision. ![]() It is the easiest thing in the world to love a monster. ![]()

Historical atlas of the vikings5/11/2023 ![]() ![]() These include monastic chronicles, such as the Anglo-Saxon Chronicle and similar Frankish and Irish Annals, which outline broadly what happened, at what date. Surviving accounts of Viking activity were almost exclusively written by churchmen. Even in western Europe, the Viking Age is often seen as part of the 'Dark Ages', from which comparatively few historical records have survived.ĭetail from the manuscript of the Anglo-Saxon Chronicle In Scandinavia the Viking Age is regarded as part of prehistory because there are practically no contemporary written sources. Others are the result of early historians accepting sources which modern scholars now regard as completely unreliable. ![]() Many popular ideas about Vikings are nineteenth-century inventions. Not a lot of evidence survives, and much of what we have is either uninformative or unreliable. Unfortunately, the value of the written evidence is limited. ![]()

The life and death of socrates by plato5/11/2023 ![]() ![]() Among other things, he declares that he has no reason to fear death, but that, on the contrary, the death penalty he received only moments before may well be considered a blessing. While his defence in the Apology was already audacious, Socrates' closing speech appears even more provocative. It was unprecedented, as far as we know, for a defendant in the Athenian court to end his trial by addressing the members of the jury, but the Apology has Socrates doing just that. As in the Phaedo, it is his impending death that prompts Socrates to speculate about the nature of the afterlife: as soon as his verdict is announced, Socrates turns to the jury to gloss on his sentencing. In a familiar passage at the end of Plato's Apology, Socrates offers an account of what he believes will happen to us when we die. ![]()
